Description of Service:
Service includes curbside once per week collection of unlimited household garbage on a weekly basis. An optional 95-gallon refuse cart is available to rent for a monthly fee. Included in this program is one bulk item (non-appliance) to be collected, which residents may set out each week at no additional charge. Refuse is required to be out by 6:00 a.m. each week. Backdoor Service and Senior On Demand Service are also available upon request. Please call Groot for more details at 877-404-7668.

White GoodsAppliances: White goods such as refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washers, air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, dryers, water heaters, water softeners, dishwashers, stoves, ranges, furnaces, etc. requires a special pick up and separate disposal by the State of Illinois. Items will be picked up for a per item fee. Residents must call Groot at 877-404-7668 to schedule a pick up in advance.

Bulk Items: Service includes collection of one (1) bulk item (non-appliance) per week at no additional cost. For additional bulk items, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick up in advance. Bulk items include: boxes, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (Appliances, tires, car batteries.)

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires residents to schedule a special pick up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items. Please call Groot to schedule.

Construction Debris: Service includes collection of not more than (1) cubic yard of construction material per week at no additional cost. Material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp object not exceeding 45 pounds. Carpet must be cut up in 4 foot lengths not exceeding 45 pounds per roll. Please call Groot for a free estimate on special cleanup of household construction debris.

Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":

The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.

Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must call in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.

All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.

Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations. Residents also may drop off electronics for free to the container behind the Prairie Grove Village Hall (no televisions please).

Recycling Program: Unlimited recyclable materials are collected on your current day of service. Groot will provide a 65-gallon recycle cart. Recyclable materials in the cart do not need to be separated from each other. Please place only approved recycling items in the cart. The collector is trained to check the contents of the cart. If there are foreign material present, the cart will be left with a violation notice. Additional 65-gallon recycle carts are available to rent for a monthly fee. Please do not place any plastic bags (i.e. grocery, kitchen) in the recycling cart nor place recyclable materials in plastic bags. Materials that exceed cart capacity may be placed in paper bags and placed beside the cart.

Yard Waste: The Village of Prairie Grove offers residents two options for yard waste collection, stickers or subscription yard waste collection.

Sticker Program Option: Residents who have limited volumes of yard waste will have the option to purchase a sticker and place the sticker on either a 33-gallon or smaller can or biodegradable yard waste bag.

Subscription Option: Residents who generate high volumes of yard waste will have the option to sign up for the subscription program for an annual fee. This program allows unlimited weekly curbside collection of biodegradable bags from April 1 through November 30th. Collection will be on the same day as refuse during the yard waste season.

  • Yard waste materials are collected on your regular collection day.
  • Yard waste which is too bulky to be placed in a bag, such as branches or brush must be securely tied, (with biodegradable twine) bundled not to exceed 4 feet in length, no larger than 2 feet in diameter and not to exceed 50 pounds in weight.
  • Yard waste materials will be collected April 1st through November 30th each year.
  • Acceptable landscape included: grass clippings, leaves, branches, brush, garden plants, flowers, weeds, vines, garden vegetables and garden fruit.
  • Unacceptable landscape includes: fence posts, railroad ties, firewood, sod, wood chips, bark and rocks.
