Village Of Niles
Village of Niles Trash and Recycling Services
Refuse: Each single family household will be supplied with a 95 gallon
refuse cart. Residents are permitted to set
out unlimited household waste for collection. Seniors (62 years and older) will have the
option of choosing a 35 gallon refuse cart size instead of the 95 gallon after a 60 day trial period.
Additional refuse beyond the cart must be placed in refuse containers not exceeding 35 gallons in capacity or 45
pounds in weight. Plastic bags at the curb are not allowed. Additional 95 gallon
refuse carts are available for rent for an annual fee. We try to be regular with our collection times but
we may arrive earlier or later on your collection day. Please have your materials out by 6:00 AM to be
assured pickup.
Solid Waste Items Not Collected:
Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain waste in landfills. In addition, other items should be
disposed of by other methods. Please observe these regulations, or your trash will not be
collected. Please click here for
more information on how to dispose of these items. The following items are banned from landfills:
automobile tires, automobile batteries, explosives, toxic items, hazardous & volatile waste, flammable
waste, gasoline, motor oil, anti-freeze, large automobile parts and wheels, acids & poisons, CFL bulbs,
florescent bulbs, electronic waste, swimming pool chemicals and paint in liquid form.
Senior Discount: 10% Discount Offered (62 years and older). Residents must apply through Village Hall. To be eligible for the senior discount, the address shall be serviced with a 35 gallon refuse and recycling cart instead of the 95 gallon and 65 gallon sizes and the discount may only be applied to a single family home. There may be only one discount per household/address. The discount will be applied on the next billing cycle.

Oversized and Overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pickup. An example of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items. Please call Groot to schedule a pickup.
Construction Demolition Debris: Up to 1 cubic yard (3' x 3' x 3') of miscellaneous debris or construction material will be collected each week at no additional charge. Construction type debris should be stacked or bundled in lengths no longer than 4 feet and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. Carpeting should be in rolls no longer than 4 feet long and two feet in diameter and taped. In general try and keep any loose material bundled and neat so we can pick up. Stone, concrete, and dirt can only be picked up in containers and cannot weigh more than 45lbs. per container. If more than 1 cubic yard please call Groot to arrange pickup. Additional charges apply.
Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must call in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.
All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.
Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.
