Refuse Can BagRefuse Program:
Residents of Deer Park have two options for refuse collection.

-Option 1- includes collection of unlimited household garbage utilizing a 95 gallon refuse cart. One bulk item (non-appliance) will be collected each week for no charge.

-Option 2- includes collection of household garbage utilizing a 65 gallon refuse cart. Any refuse can/bag or bulk item placed outside of the 65 gallon cart will require (1) one overage sticker. Each bulk item (non-appliance) placed out for collection will also require (1) one overage sticker per item.

Residents have the option of switching their refuse service to either modified volume based or unlimited standard service at any time, once per year. Please call Groot to make this change. Residents may also choose to rent additional refuse or recycle carts for an additional fee. Please call Groot to order.

Toter RecyclerRecycling Program:
Residents are issued a 65 gallon cart designated for "Recycling Only." An unlimited amount of recyclable materials may be set out for weekly collection along with the refuse and yard waste materials. Residents may call Groot to have their existing 65 gallon cart exchange for a larger 95 gallon cart. This will be provided one time per year at no cost.

Senior Program: To receive the senior discount, residents must be 65 years or older and be the primary resident of the household. Service will include weekly collection for refuse and recycling. Seniors must be registered with the Village in order to be eligible for the senior garbage rate.

Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":

The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.

Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must call in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.

All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.

Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.

Bulk Items/Oversized Items:
Unlimited standard refuse service includes collection of one (1) bulk item (non-appliance) or oversized/overweight items) per week at no additional cost. For additional bulk items, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick-up and make payment arrangements. Modified volume service requires (1) overage sticker for each bulk item. Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill.

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires us to schedule a special pick-up for an additional fee. An example of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two people to lift.

Appliances: White goods such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, dehumidifiers, water softeners, water heaters, microwave ovens, dishwashers, stoves, ranges, furnaces, etc. require a special pick-up and separate disposal is required by state. Residents must call Groot at 800-244-1977 to obtain an estimate and schedule a pick-up in advance.

Construction Debris: All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. All debris must be bagged or bundled not exceeding 45 pounds. Residents need to call Groot to obtain a price quote and to schedule a pick-up.

LeavesYard Waste:
The yard waste season runs from April 1st through November 30th every year. Residents who have limited volumes of landscape may purchase a sticker and place the sticker on each biodegradable "Kraft" bag that does not exceed 33 gallons. Yard waste which is too bulky to be placed in a bag, such as branches or brush must be securely tied and bundled. Branches may not exceed 3" in diameter.

Each yard waste bag or bundle requires one (1) sticker to be affixed to it when placed out for weekly collection. Collection is the same day as the refuse and recycling collection. Branches Bundles: 4 inches in diameter, tied securely, bundles not to exceed 4 feet, 45 pounds. Stickers are sold at the Deer Park Village Hall or Online.

Residents who generate higher volumes of landscape will have the option to register for the subscription program. The subscription program includes one 95-gallon cart designated for landscape only. Residents can place additional landscape in biodegradable paper bags next to the cart at the curb for collection. Plastic or metal cans are not permitted. Residents must call Groot and subscribe for an annual fee. Subscription rate is not prorated if ordered after April 1st.

Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines are acceptable landscape items. Landscape does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood, rocks, bark, wood chips, excess amounts of dirt or animal waste.

Food Scraps: The program has now expanded to include food scraps. During the yard waste collection season, residents may now place food waste into the yard waste material. Do not place paper goods or non-perishable waste into the yard waste.

Stickers are universal and may be used for refuse and landscape waste.

Christmas TreeChristmas Trees: Christmas trees will be collected the first two weeks in January on your regularly scheduled pick-up day. Landscape stickers are not necessary. Trees must be free of all lights, ornaments and tinsel. Plastic bags also must be removed from trees.
