Missed Collection
The vehicle drivers begin at 6:00 a.m. and cease collection by 7:00 p.m. If
the vehicle driver misses your collection, it will picked up the next day. Please contact Groot directly at (847)
429-7370. Offices are open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on the following holidays: New Years
Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Refuse Service
Households are responsible for placing containerized refuse
in the 95-gallon cart provided by Groot at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Place the cart as
close as possible to the curb with the wheels facing toward the house. Excess refuse may be placed in plastic
garbage bags. There is no limit to the number of receptacles or bags residents may place at the curb provided they
weigh no more than 50 pounds and no more than 3 yards in volume, with the exception of construction/remodeling
debris and hazardous materials not to exceed the contents of one 30-gallon container or 10, 4' x 4' rolls of
carpet.
Groot will collect all kitchen waste including household food, accumulations of animal food and
vegetable matter attendant on the preparation of foods, general household trash and refuse, including ashes, crates,
wrapping materials, cloth materials, discarded toys, discarded clothes and similar materials that may not be
recyclable for any reason, furniture including, but not limited to mattresses, box springs, sofas, chairs, tables,
bookcases (one large item per week), fixtures, bicycles, sleds, swing sets, microwave ovens and like items
(excluding major appliances) as defined herein, small amounts, less than two cubic yards in volume of earth sod,
rocks or debris from remodeling or construction resulting from do-it-yourself projects - if placed in disposable or
acceptable containers, or in securely tied bundles not exceeding four feet in length or 50 pounds in
weight.
On request, Groot will provide residents with additional disposal service beyond that described
for all types of refuse materials including earth, sod, rocks, concrete, excavations and other materials (except for
poisonous and toxic materials and large quantities of liquid requiring tank truck disposal equipment). Please call
(847) 429-7370 for an estimate for any special services.
Recycling Service
Recycling material is collected on the same day as refuse and yard waste.
Residents are provided with a 65-gallon recycling cart.
Electronics Recycling
Illinois bans electronics in landfills to reduce the amount of toxic
material in the environment. Electronic waste (e-waste) must be recycled by a registered collector, recycle and/or
manufacturer. Recycling the metals, plastics and glass from electronic items conserves natural resources and uses
far less energy than mining or refining raw materials, which include gold, cadmium, lead and silver. Groot will
provide recycling collection; however, e-waste left at the curbside will not be picked up.
The Kane
County Recycles office manages recycling programs for electronics, books, hazardous materials, and other
hard-to-recycle materials, and promotes best practices for household recycling, commercial business recycling, and
composting. This office oversees recycling-related information and community outreach initiatives; oversees the
annual licensing of Waste and Recycling Haulers; provides backyard compost bins; and implements the Kane County
Solid Waste Plan. The office oversees the Recycling and Hauler Licensing Ordinance which requires commercial
businesses and multi-family residences to recycle, and provides the provisions for hauler licensing and reporting.
Yard Waste Services
Weekly landscaping/yard waste collection is available
from March 1st through December 15th on the same day as refuse and recycling pick-up. This waste may be placed in
standard brown kraft yard waste bags or in containers clearly marked "yard waste." Containers or bags may not exceed
34-gallon capacity or weigh more than 50 lbs.
Yard waste includes all accumulations of grass, leaves,
shrubs, vines and other similar items. Small bushes, brush and branch clippings, when securely bound with string or
twine in bundles not exceeding four feet in length, will be collected. Christmas trees are collected on regularly
scheduled pickup days during the first three full weeks of January. Trees must be free of metal, plastics, all
decorations and disposal bags.
Curbside, unbagged leaf pickup is provided to households owned and/or
occupied by senior citizens (age 65 or older) who are currently enrolled in the Senior Credit Program and to
owners/occupants of residential lots larger than one acre. Leaves are collected on Mondays from September 1st
through December 15th or the first snow fall. Residents should be aware that the program only applies to leaves
generated on a qualifying lot and staff will monitor the program for compliance in this regard. If the Village
determines that non-site generated leaves have been placed on an eligible lot, the residence will be removed from
the program until such time as the leaves have been removed or bagged in an appropriate manner. Leaf pick-up must be
scheduled in advance by contacting the Administrative Services Department at 847-742-5780 by noon the Friday before
the pick up week.
