Curbside Collection Program

Residents will be required to have their containers at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on their designated collection day.
  • Residents are provided unlimited curbside collection of household waste with a default service level of a 95 gallon refuse cart and a 65 gallon recycling cart.
  • Residents are allowed to switch their cart size to a 35, 65, or 95 gallon cart for an additional fee
  • Refuse and recycling that does not fit into carts provided by Groot will be collected as long as it is properly prepared in plastic bags or cans (with handles) not exceeding 33 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Residents can rent additional refuse and recycling carts from Groot for a fee of $4 per month. Please contact Groot at (847) 734-6400 for details or email elkgrove@groot.com.

Yard Waste Collection Program: April 1st – December 15th each year

Yard waste collection will take place each week on the same day as refuse and recycling collection. Elk Grove residents will have two options for the collection of yard waste.

Landscape Waste Stickers: An unlimited amount of properly prepared yard waste bags or resident owned 33 gallon rigid containers (not exceeding 50 pounds in weight) will be collected curbside each week as long as a prepaid landscape waste sticker is affixed to each container.

Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines, bark and wood chips may be placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled pick up day in biodegradable paper “kraft” bags or containers not to exceed 33 gallons in size or 50 pounds. Bags are preferred to be rolled and crimped closed and be easily lifted to waist height and must not exceed 50lbs.

Landscape waste stickers are available for purchase at the Village Municipal Complex and at the following stores:

  • Ace Hardware (821 Nerge Rd)

Landscape Waste/Food Scrap 65 or 95 Gallon Cart Subscription: Under this option residents can pay for an annual subscription per year to receive a 65 or 95 gallon cart from Groot designated for yard waste and food scraps. If residents have materials that do not fit in their subscription yard waste/food scrap cart, they may also place bags or plastic containers or biodegradable “Kraft” type bags not exceeding 32 gallons outside of the cart each week as long as a prepaid sticker is affixed to each item. Each bag or container set outside the cart may only contain yard waste (no food scrap).

Small Branch Collection: Groot will provide small bundled branch collection at no additional charge from April 1st through December 15th. Branches must be no longer than four (4) feet in length, two (2) feet in diameter and weigh no more than fifty (50) pounds per bundle. Tree trimmings and branches cannot be wider than three and a half (3.5) inches in diameter.

Christmas Tree

Groot Industries will provide free collection of Christmas trees each year at no additional cost to residents the first two weeks in January each year.

Bulk & Oversized Item Disposal:

One bulk item (under 50 pounds) will be collected on your regularly scheduled collection day at no charge. Bulk items exceeding 50 pounds will require an additional fee. Call Groot at (847) 734-6400 to schedule a bulk item collection.

Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, mattresses, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items will be collected but will require an additional fee. Oversized/overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that will require the resident to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to lift. A per item fee of will apply for each oversized item. White Goods

White Goods/Appliances:

White Goods will be collected on a weekly basis with residents calling to schedule a special collection for a fee. Regardless of size and weight, all appliances/white goods must be called in for a scheduled pick up and payment must be received in advance. Call Groot at (847) 734-6400 to schedule a collection. Items should not be placed at the curb until the evening before the scheduled collection.

Construction Demolition Debris:

Construction debris will be collected from small remodeling projects each week for an additional charge. It must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter and bundled or placed in an approved container that does not exceed 50 pounds in weight..

Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste" (Single Family Properties Only):

Groot will collect up to two electronic waste items weighing less than 50 pounds per home each week at no additional charge. Residents must call to schedule a collection at least 24 hours in advance of their service day. Items that exceed 50 pounds will require a fee.

The current definition of E-Waste, pursuant to Illinois law, includes but may not be limited to:
Televisions, computers—desktop or laptop, computer monitors, keyboards, facsimile machines, recorders, digital music players, digital video disc players, video game consoles, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital converters, cable receivers, satellite receivers and digital video disc recorders need to be disposed of in a manner consistent with the enacted Illinois E-Waste Act.

Senior Discount

Elk Grove residents 65+ in single family/ townhomes who pay their bills directly to Groot are eligible for a senior discount of 10%.
