The United City of Yorkville is pleased to announce the award of a single waste hauler franchise agreement to Groot Industries beginning May 1, 2021. Collection Program: Groot will service the City on Monday through Friday each week. The first pick-up will be Monday, May 2, 2022. To view the Yorkville brochure service map, please click here.


Curbside Collection Program
Residents will be required to have their containers at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on their designated collection day.
- Residents should call the City of Yorkville to sign up for trash service. Residents may select from a 35 gallon, 65 gallon (default size), or 95 gallon cart for refuse service. Please contact the City at (630) 553-4350 for current pricing. Each bag or can set out in addition to the Groot issued cart will require the use of prepaid stickers ($2.00 each).
- Each household is provided with (1) – 65 gallon trash cart. Residents may change to a 35 gallon trash cart or a larger 95 gallon cart for no additional charge. Additional trash carts are billed directly to the resident. Contact Groot at 630-892-9294 to set up an account for an extra trash cart.
- Each household will receive a recycling cart. Additional recycling in addition to a full cart will be collected each week without limit as long as it is properly prepared.
- Items NOT accepted for pick-up include: Any white good item that contains PCBs, toxic & hazardous wastes (such as car batteries, acids, caustics, flammable or explosive materials, oils or hot ash), large construction materials, large auto parts, materials from floods/fires/evictions and tires.

Bulk / Oversized / Special Item Collection
Bulk & Oversized Item Disposal
One bulk items (under 50 pounds) will be collected on your regularly scheduled collection at no charge. Additional bulk items will require one prepaid refuse sticker affixed to each item.
Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste).
Oversized and overweight items will be collected at a $50.00 charge per item. Oversized/overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that will require the resident to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to lift. A per item fee of will apply for each over-sized item and residents will be required to call Groot at (630) 892-9294 to schedule a pickup in advance.
White Goods/Appliances
White goods will be collected on your regularly scheduled collection day. One white good will be collected each week at no charge. Residents must call Groot at (630) 892-9294 to schedule collection of white goods. Items should not be placed at the curb until the evening before the scheduled collection.
Construction Demolition Debris
Construction debris will be collected from small remodeling projects each week at $28.00 per yard. All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 25 pounds.

Sustainable Food Waste Management Solutions
Yard Waste Collection Program
April 1st – First Full Week in December
An unlimited amount of properly prepared yard waste “Kraft” bags will be collected each week on your regular service day.
All bundled brush must not exceed four (4) feet in length, with each individual bundle not to exceed fifty (50) pounds in weight. Brush will be required to be bundled with biodegradable natural fiber twin (plastic or wire is prohibited).
- Christmas Tree Collection
Groot will provide free collection of Christmas trees each year at no additional cost. Collection will take place during the first and second full week in January. - Curbside Composting Program Groot is offering to allow residents to comingle organic material/food scraps in with their weekly landscape waste during the yard waste season as described above. The option to comingle organic material/food scrap would require the use of a rigid container not to exceed 35 gallons (no yard waste bags). Service will only be available during the yard waste season. Contact Groot directly if you wish to rent a container for yard waste/food scrap.
- Acceptable food scraps for composting include: fruits, vegetables, bread, grains, pasta, cereal, non liquid dairy, eggshells, coffee grounds (no coffee filters) and tea leaves (no teabags)
- Unacceptable food scraps includes: teabags and coffee filters, meat, poultry or seafood (no shells or bones), paper products (paper towels, plates, napkins, egg cartons, and pizza boxes), glass, plastics, styrofoam, diapers, pet litter and waste, liquids, grease and oil.

Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste"
Groot will provide curbside collection of e-waste items on your collection day at no charge (excluding televisions over 50 pounds). Residents must call Groot 24 hours in advance at (630) 892-9294 to schedule collection of e-waste.

If the holiday falls on a weekday, on or before your scheduled collection, service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week. If the holiday falls on Sunday, it will be observed on Monday and service will be delayed one day the entire week.
