Groot provides unlimited yard waste collection from April 1 through November 30. Each bag or bundle must have a yard waste sticker attached. Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, and vines may be placed at the curb on your regularly scheduled collection day. Yard waste must be set out in bags with a yard waste sticker affixed to each bag; containers are not accepted.

Bags must be securely rolled and crimped closed, weigh no more than 50 lbs, and be easily lifted to waist height. Brush and branches up to 6 inches in diameter must be bundled with twine (wire and plastic ties are not accepted). Bundles must not exceed 4 feet in length, 2 feet in diameter at the base, 50 pounds in weight, and must be easily lifted to waist height.

Yard waste does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, bark, wood chips, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood or animal waste.

Christmas trees:
Christmas trees are picked up during the first 2 weeks of January at no additional cost.

Groot will take two large items per week at no additional cost.

‍Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, mattresses/box spring, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be safely collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. For bulk items in excess of 75 lbs, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick-up in advance.

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items. Please call Groot to schedule a pick-up.

State laws require us to collect any white good type of appliance such as refrigerators, ovens, washers, etc. separately and recycle. Residents must call Groot in advance for this collection which will be no additional cost.

Definition: Any domestic and/or commercial large appliance which contains CFC or HCFC refrigerant gas, PCB containing capacitors, mercury switches, or other hazardous components. Examples: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, ranges (both electric and gas), dehumidifiers, water heaters, furnaces, ovens, humidifiers, water softeners, trash compactors, washing machines, clothes dryers, and other similar appliances.

Groot will collect up to two bulk items and three bundles of construction debris at no additional cost. All materials must be cut into lengths of 4 feet or less and bundles must not exceed 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of collection crews, debris must be bagged or bundled, free of nails and other sharp objects, and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Carpet must be cut into 4-foot lengths, with each roll weighing no more than 50 pounds.

Solid Waste Items Not Collected:
Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain waste in landfills. In addition, other items should be disposed of by other methods. Please observe these regulations, or your trash will not be collected. The following items are banned from landfills.

Under the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, mixing electronics with regular landfill waste is prohibited. All collected items are securely recycled and made inoperable. For sensitive electronics like hard drives, we offer convenient front, side, or drive-up pickups. You can also drop off items at local collection sites, many free of charge. Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must contact us in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.
