Big Rock Township offers weekly curbside refuse and recycling collection, including a 95-gallon refuse cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart at no charge.

Additional services include bulk item pickup, construction debris collection, and white goods disposal. Discounts are available for seniors, and holiday schedules may adjust collection by one day.

Big Rock Township

Curbside Collection Program: Each household will receive weekly collection of refuse and recycling in Groot provided carts on Tuesday each week. Collection will occur between then hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Residents will be provided with a default cart size of one (1) 95 gallon refuse cart and one (1) 65 gallon recycling cart at no charge.

Any additional refuse outside the cart will be collected (plastic bag or plastic or galvanized metal can not to exceed thirty two (32) gallons, with two handles and not over fifty (50) pounds in weight). Additional Groot carts will be available for an additional fee.

Senior Citizens Discount: Single-family households where the head of the household is age 65 or older, are eligible for a discounted collection rate for the Curbside Collection Program. Proof of age and home ownership must be provided with a valid ID.

Construction Demolition Debris

In lieu of one bulk item, Groot will collect one (1) cubic yards of construction debris will be collected each week at no charge. Construction debris beyond one (1) cubic yard will be collected based on a per cubic yard rate and must be scheduled in advance.

Construction debris must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter and bundled or placed in an approved container that does not exceed 50 pounds in weight.

Bulk / Oversized / Special Item Collection

Bulk Items

Residents will be provided curbside collection of 2 bulk items or up to 3 bundles of construction debris per week, under 50 lbs, on a weekly basis which can be safely collected by one Groot collector. Items exceeding 50 lbs in weight will be charged an additional fee.

Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub, or any item that requires two or more people to lift. There will be an additional fee per item.

White Goods

Groot will provide collection of such items on a weekly basis with residents calling to schedule a special collection. Regardless of size and weight, all appliances/white goods must be called in for a scheduled pick up, no charge.

Christmas trees

Christmas trees are picked up in the first 2 weeks of January, no charge.

If the holiday falls on a weekday, on or before your scheduled collection, service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week.

If the holiday falls on Sunday, it will be observed on Monday and service will be delayed one day the entire week.
