Yard Waste/Food Scrap Collection Program – April 1– November 30th:

Residents have the following options for the collection of yard waste/food scrap collection

Yard Waste/Food Scrap Sticker Program:

Unlimited collection of metal/plastic containers or biodegradable Kraft bags can be placed out for collection as long as a prepaid yard waste sticker is affixed to each item. Each container or bag may not exceed a capacity of 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Residents choosing to include food scrap with their yard waste must use rigid containers (no yard waste bags).

Yard Waste/Compost Subscription Program:

For an annual subscription fee, residents can place up to six (6) metal/plastic containers or Kraft type yard waste bags out for collection each week. Each container or bag may not exceed a capacity of 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Any containers beyond six placed out for collection must have a prepaid yard waste sticker affixed to each item. Residents choosing to include food scrap with their yard waste must use rigid containers (no yard waste bags).

Residents subscribing to the subscription program may place out for collection an unlimited amount of properly prepared leaves (yard waste bags or rigid containers not exceeding 50 pounds in weight per bag) during the six week leaf collection period. The six week leaf collection begins mid October annually.

Christmas Tree Collection:

Christmas trees for all residential customers will be collected at no additional charge on your collection day from January 2nd through January 25th each year.

Residents will be provided curbside collection of one bulk item, under 50 pounds, on a weekly basis which can be safely collected by one Groot collector. Additional bulk items beyond one free will be an additional fee.

Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fi t into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a hot tub, or any item that requires two or more people to lift. There will be an additional fee per item.

Groot will provide collection of appliances on a weekly basis with residents calling to schedule a special collection for a fee. Regardless of size and weight, all appliances/white goods must be called in for a scheduled pick up.

Under the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, mixing electronics with regular landfill waste is prohibited. All collected items are securely recycled and made inoperable. For sensitive electronics like hard drives, we offer convenient front, side, or drive-up pickups. You can also drop off items at local collection sites, many free of charge. Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must contact us in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.
