Village of Grayslake Refuse & Recycling Collection

Groot will be providing residential refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection in the Village of Grayslake beginning October 1st, 2025. To view the brochure please click here.

Please note, residents are already set up in our system with your current level of service and current service day. Groot carts will start to be delivered September 15th. You will receive the same cart size you currently have.

The first quarterly invoice will be mailed to residents at the beginning of October. After the first invoice is received, you can go to our Bill Pay page to set up an online account to receive invoices electronically if desired. Payments to Groot can be sent by mail or online through a checking account or credit/debitcard.

Collection Service

Residents will be required to have their containers at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on their designated collection day.

Residents will be provided with one (1) 35, 65, or 95 gallon refuse cart. Additional carts are available for an additional fee. Residents have the option to exchange their refuse cartsize one time per calendar year at no charge. An additional fee will be required if an exchange happens more than one time per year.

Residents will be provided with one (1) 65 or 95 gallon cart designated for recycling. Additional recyclable material outside of the cart will be collected as long as it is properly prepared in metal or plastic cans (not exceeding 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight). Additional 65 or 95 gallon recycle carts will be available for an additional fee. Residents have the option to exchange their recycle cartsize one time per calendar year at no charge. An additional fee will be required if an exchange happens more than one time per year.

Bulk & Oversized Item Disposal

One Bulk Item Free Per Week

Residents will be provided curbside collection of one bulk item which can be safely collected by one Groot collector (under 50 pounds) on a weekly basis. Additional bulk items beyond the one free weekly item will incur an additional fee and will require a scheduled collection (please call Groot to schedule).

Bulk items include: boxes,barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance.  Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s,electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up.  An example of an oversized item is a hot tub, or any item that requires two or more peopleto lift.  There will be an additional fee per item. E-Waste Collection

Electronic waste will be collected curbside. Electronic devices must be placed curbside and cannot be comingled with any other materials. Televisions over 50 pounds will be an additional fee. White Goods/Appliances

Groot will provide collection of appliances on a weekly basis with residents calling to schedule a special collection. Regardless of size and weight, allappliances/white goods must be called in for a scheduled pick up. Please contact Groot at 847-693-2700 for rates and to schedule a collection.

 

Construction/ Demolition Debris

All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter.  For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 25 pounds.  Yard Waste/Food Scrap Collection Programs

Residents have the following options for the collection of yard waste/food scrap collection.

Yard Waste/Food Scrap Sticker Program (April 1 -November 30th)

Unlimited collectionof metal/plastic containers or biodegradable Kraft bags can be placed out for collection as long as a prepaid sticker is affixed to each item. Each container or bag may not exceed a capacity of 35 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Residents choosing to include food scrap with their yard waste must use rigid containers (no yard waste bags).

Yard Waste/Food Scrap Subscription Program (April1 - November 30th)

For an annual subscription fee, residents can place up to six (6)  metal/plastic containers or Kraft type yard waste bags out for collection each week. Each container or bag may not exceed acapacity of 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Any containers beyond six placed out for collection must have a prepaid sticker affixed to each item. Residents choosing to include food scrap with their yard waste must use rigid containers (no yard waste bags).

Green Package Program

For an annual rate, Groot will provide collection of food scraps year round. Residents  will be provided with a 35 gallon cart designated for food scrap only. Holiday Tree Collection:

Holiday trees for all residential customers will be collected at no additional charge on your collection day during the first three weeks in January annually.
