Groot offers the residents landscape waste collection from April 1st through November 30th each year. Collection will coincide with refuse and recycling collection on THURSDAY each week during the season. All landscape waste must be placed at the curb in biodegradable paper bags sold specifically for the collection and disposal of landscape.

Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines may be placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled pickup day. Bags must be rolled and crimped closed and be easily lifted to waist height and not exceed 50 pounds. Brush and branches up to 6 inches must be bundled with twine (wire or plastic is not acceptable) 4 feet or less in length and 2 feet or less in diameter at the base and easily lifted to waist height. Yard waste does not include wood timbers, bark, wood chips, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood or animal waste.

Christmas trees will be removed after the holidays on the 1st and 2nd Thursdays of January. Trees must be free of all lights, ornaments and tinsel in order to be recycled.

Leaf Collection

During the first full four weeks in November, Groot will provide leaf vacuuming services at the curb. The provision of this service requires residents to rake leaves to within five (5) feet of the edge of the road (not in ditches).

Bulky/Oversized Items

Service includes collection of one (1) bulk item (not appliances or oversized/overweight items) per week at no additional cost. For additional bulk items, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick-up in advance.

Bulk Items include: boxes, crates, furniture, mattress/box spring and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be safely collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (Examples: appliances, tires, car batteries, televisions and electronic waste).

Please note that Groot will be providing an annual bulk item collection program during one week in May or June. This program will provide for the unlimited collection of bulk items as defined above. The exact week will be announced by the Village at a future date.

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy items that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An exampled of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items. Please call Groot to schedule a pickup.

Appliances

State laws require us to collect any white good type of appliance such as refrigerators, ovens, washers, etc. separately and recycle. Residents must call Groot in advance for white good collections which will be an additional cost.

Construction Debris

In lieu of a bulk item, Groot will take 1 cubic yard of construction/demolition debris per week at no additional cost. All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 50 pounds. Carpet must be cut up in four foot lengths not exceeding 50 pounds per roll.
