Each single family household will be supplied with a 95 gallon refuse cart. Residents are permitted to set out unlimited household waste for collection. Seniors (62 years and older) will have the option of choosing a 35 gallon refuse cart size instead of the 95 gallon after a 60 day trial period. Additional refuse beyond the cart must be placed in refuse containers not exceeding 35 gallons in capacity or 45 pounds in weight
Senior Discount Program
Residents aged 62 and older are eligible for a 10% discount on service. To apply, please contact Village Hall.
To qualify, the residence must:
- Use a 35-gallon refuse and recycling cart (not the 65- or 95-gallon sizes).
- Be a single-family home.
- Have only one discount per household or address.
Once approved, the discount will be applied to the next billing cycle.
All residents will now be supplied with a 65 gallon recycling cart. While the carts must be used, you may keep the 18 gallon recycle bin for personal use and overflow only when the recycle cart is full. The carts must be placed four feet apart with the handles facing the house on collection day. Place a note on the bin if you wish Groot to permanently remove and recycle your 18 gallon bin. Seniors (65 and older) will have the option of choosing a 35 gallon recycle cart size instead of the 65 gallon size after a 60 day trial period.

The Village of Niles provides landscape waste stickers for residents. Each 30-gallon biodegradable landscape bag or container (up to 35 gallons and 50 pounds) must have a sticker attached before collection.
Landscape materials are collected on your regular service day. Items that are too large for bags—such as branches or brush—must be securely tied with biodegradable twine and bundled no longer than 4 feet in length, 2 feet in diameter, and 50 pounds in weight.
Landscape waste collection runs from April 1 through December 1 each year.
Acceptable materials include: grass clippings, leaves, branches, brush, garden plants, flowers, weeds, vines, garden vegetables, and fruits.
Unacceptable materials include: fence posts, railroad ties, firewood, sod, earth, wood chips, bark, and rocks.
Unlimited Bulk items, such as Furniture (couch, dresser, chair) Mattress and box spring, lawn mower, bicycle, grill etc.
Large or extra-heavy items that require special handling must be scheduled for pickup with Groot. An additional fee applies for oversized items.To arrange collection, please contact Groot in advance.
State laws require us to collect any "white good" type of appliances such as refrigerators, ovens, washers etc. separately and recycle them. There is a fee per item for collection and you are required to contact us to schedule and make arrangements for payment.
Up to 1 cubic yard (3' x 3' x 3') of miscellaneous debris or construction material will be collected each week at no additional charge. Construction type debris should be stacked or bundled in lengths no longer than 4 feet and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. Carpeting should be in rolls no longer than 4 feet long and two feet in diameter and taped. In general try and keep any loose material bundled and neat so we can pick up. Stone, concrete, and dirt can only be picked up in containers and cannot weigh more than 45lbs. per container. If more than 1 cubic yard please call Groot to arrange pickup. Additional charges apply.
Christmas trees will be removed after the holidays through January on your regular collection day. No sticker is required. Trees over six feet tall need to be cut in half with tinsel and decorations removed. Do not bag Christmas trees.
Under the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, mixing electronics with regular landfill waste is prohibited. All collected items are securely recycled and made inoperable. For sensitive electronics like hard drives, we offer convenient front, side, or drive-up pickups. You can also drop off items at local collection sites, many free of charge. Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must contact us in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.
