VILLAGE OF LONG GROVE REFUSE & RECYCLING COLLECTION

Refuse Collection Program

Residents will be required to have their containers at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on their designated collection day.

For Limited Service, residents will be provided with one (1) 35 or 65 gallon refuse cart and one (1) 65 gallon recycle cart. Refuse outside of the cart will be collected as long as it is properly prepared in metal or plastic cans not exceeding 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight and a prepaid refuse sticker affixed to each item.

For Unlimited Service, residents will be provided with one (1) 95 gallon refuse cart and one (1) 65 gallon recycle cart. Up to six (6) additional plastic refuse bags or cans outside of the cart will be collected as long as it is properly prepared (not exceeding 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight). Additional 95 gallon refuse carts are available for a quarterly fee for Unlimited Service customers.

During the month of May annually, residents have the option to upgrade from a 65 gallon recycle cart to a 95 gallon recycle. Residents may do this one time at no charge. Any downgrade in cart size is subject to an additional charge. Additional 95 gallon recycle carts are available for a quarterly rate.

Back Door Service: For an additional fee, residents may have their refuse and recycling collected at the top of their driveway or an area clearly visible from the street. Refuse and recycling containers will then be left curbside after collection. Back door service is available for refuse and recycling services only (no bulk items, construction debris, white goods, or landscape waste). Yard Waste Collection

Yard Waste/Food Scrap Collection Program – April 1– November 30th:

Residents have the following options for the collection of yard waste/food scrap collection

Yard Waste/Food Scrap Sticker Program:

Unlimited collection of metal/plastic containers or biodegradable Kraft bags can be placed out for collection as long as a prepaid yard waste sticker is affixed to each item. Each container or bag may not exceed a capacity of 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Residents choosing to include food scrap with their yard waste must use rigid containers (no yard waste bags).

Yard Waste/Compost Subscription Program:

For an annual subscription fee, residents can place up to six (6) metal/plastic containers or Kraft type yard waste bags out for collection each week. Each container or bag may not exceed a capacity of 32 gallons and 50 pounds in weight. Any containers beyond six placed out for collection must have a prepaid yard waste sticker affixed to each item. Residents choosing to include food scrap with their yard waste must use rigid containers (no yard waste bags).

Residents subscribing to the subscription program may place out for collection an unlimited amount of properly prepared leaves (yard waste bags or rigid containers not exceeding 50 pounds in weight per bag) during the six week leaf collection period. The six week leaf collection begins mid October annually.

Christmas Tree Collection:

Christmas trees for all residential customers will be collected at no additional charge on your collection day from January 2nd through January 25th each year.

Bulk & Oversized Item Disposal:

Residents will be provided curbside collection of one bulk item, under 50 pounds, on a weekly basis which can be safely collected by one Groot collector. Additional bulk items beyond one free will be an additional fee.

Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fi t into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a hot tub, or any item that requires two or more people to lift. There will be an additional fee per item.

Senior Citizens Discount:

Single-family households where the head of the household is age 65 or older, are eligible for a 15% discount on the Limited or Unlimited Service only. To receive the discount, contact Groot at 847-693-2700 for details and to provide proof of age.

White Goods/Appliances

Groot will provide collection of appliances on a weekly basis with residents calling to schedule a special collection for a fee. Regardless of size and weight, all appliances/white goods must be called in for a scheduled pick up.

E-Waste Collection:

Electronic waste will be collected curbside at no charge. Electronic devices must be placed curbside and cannot be comingled with any other materials. Televisions over 50 pounds will be an additional fee. Please contact Groot at least 24 hours in advance of your service day to schedule collection.

If the holiday falls on a weekday, on or before your scheduled collection, service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week. If the holiday falls on Sunday, it will be observed on Monday and service will be delayed one day the entire week.
