Service Schedule

Please note that your service day may be changing. Groot will provide collection services to Village residents on either Thursday or Friday each week. Please reference the following map to identify your collection day.

 Algonquin Route Map

Residents may choose from two types of refuse collection programs:

Pay by the Bag/Container: Service includes weekly collection of unlimited household solid waste placed in bags or cans not to exceed 32 gallons or 50 pounds. One prepaid sticker must be attached to each bag or can set out for collection. Households may place an unlimited number of stickered bags/containers at the curb each week. Please note that if you place out two or more bags per week, the Cart Program (described below) will be a more cost effective option. 

Cart Subscription Program: As an alternate to the sticker program, residents may participate in the cart subscription program. Service includes weekly curbside collection of household solid waste placed in a 95-gallon cart provided by Groot. Residents will be billed directly on a quarterly basis. Household waste placed outside the cart will require the use of prepaid stickers attached to each bag or can not exceeding 32 gallons or 50 pounds.

Recycling Collection

Recycling is included with both refuse programs at no additional charge. Recyclables must be placed in the Village provided 65 gallon cart on your regular day of collection as noted in the schedule above. Additional recycling carts may be rented for a monthly fee.

Bulk Items/Oversized Items

Bulk Items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, mattress/box spring and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be safely collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill. (Examples: appliances, tires, car batteries, televisions and electronic waste). 1 person must be able to safely lift the item, 1 sticker is required for items up to 50 lbs. $40.00 per item over 50 lbs. For Bulk Items in excess of 50 lbs, residents should call Groot to schedule a pick-up 24 hours in advance.

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy items that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An exampled of an oversized item is a piano or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized items. Please call Groot to schedule a pickup.

Construction/Demolition Debris

All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter. For the safely of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 50 pounds. Carpet must be cut up in four foot lengths not exceeding 50 pounds per roll. One (1) sticker must be attached to each bundle. For large amounts of debris, please contact Groot 48 hours prior to collection at 800-244-1977 for an estimate.

White Goods/AppliancesAppliances

State laws require us to collect any white good type of appliance such as refrigerators, ovens, washers, etc. separately and recycle. Residents must call Groot in advance for white good collections which will be an additional cost.

Yard Waste Collection

Groot will collect unlimited volumes of stickered yard waste starting the first full week in April through the second full week in December, which will require (1) sticker (same sticker used for garbage) attached to each bag, bundle or container. Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines may be placed at the curb on the regularly scheduled pickup day. Bags must be rolled and crimped closed and be easily lifted to waist height and not exceed 50 pounds. Containers must not exceed 35 gallons or 50 pounds. Brush and branches up to 6 inches must be bundled with twine (wire or plastic is not acceptable) 4 feet or less in length and 2 feet or  Kraft Bagless in diameter at the base and easily lifted to waist height. Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines, bark and wood chips are acceptable landscape items. Landscape does not include wood timbers, bark, wood chips, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood, rocks, excess amounts of dirt or animal waste. .

Leaf and Brush Collection

Groot will provide the collection of leaves and brush at no charge from October 1 through December 15 as well April 11th through April 26th. Leaves must be placed in standard paper yard waste bags or cans that are clearly marked with a red "X." Place all bags or cans at the curb during your regular collection day. Bagged lawn clippings along with other general yard waste shall be placed separately from bagged leaves and bundled branches and will require the use of prepaid stickers.

Residents may take part, as an option, in the yard waste cart rental program. This includes a Groot issued 95 gallon yard waste cart to be billed directly to the resident for a monthly fee.

Christmas Trees

Groot Industries will provide free collection of Christmas trees throughout the month of January. No sticker will be required. Trees must be free of all lights, ornaments and tinsel in order to be recycled. Trees not free form foreign materials must be disposed of as refuse.

*If the holiday falls on a Saturday, pick up will stay the same.
*If the holiday falls on a Sunday, Monday will be an off day.
*If the holiday falls on a weekday, service will be delayed until the next day.

Solid Waste Items Not Collected

Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain waste in landfills. In addition, other items should be disposed of by other methods. Please observe these regulations, or your trash will not be collected. Please visit www.swancc.org for more information on how to dispose of these items. The following items are banned from landfills:

Electronic Waste Collection - "E-Waste"

Certain electronic items are prohibited from being disposed of in Illinois landfills. Groot will collect, at the curb, up to six electronic items for an additional fee. Please contact Groot at 800-244-1977 to schedule a collection.

The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill. All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pickup items from the front, side, or top of drive locations. Customer also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge.
