Unlimited Standard Refuse Service:

Service includes collection of unlimited household garbage. Additional refuse beyond the 95-gallon cart may be placed in containers not exceeding 33 gallons. Residents may place one or two bulk items out per week (non-appliance and non-electronic) for collection at no additional charge. Refuse is required to be out by 6:30 a.m.

Carts:

Residents are required to use their 95-gallon cart for refuse and 65-gallon cart for recycling. The two carts need to be placed at least 4 feet apart with the handles facing the house on collection day. Lost, damaged or stolen refuse/recycle carts will be replaced - contact us to report a broken cart. Landscape carts are the responsibility of the resident.

Unlimited recycling is included with the refuse program and is collected on your primary day of service. Recyclables must be placed in the Groot provided 65 gallon cart on your regular day of collection. Materials do not need to be separated. Materials that exceed cart capacity may be placed in paper bags and placed beside the cart. DO NOT place plastic bags in the recycling container.

Bulk / Oversized / Special Item Collection

Bulk & Oversized Item Disposal:

Service includes collection of one to two bulk items per week (not appliances/oversized/overweight items) at no additional cost. Bulk items include, but are not limited to, boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be safely collected/lifted by one driver without assistance.

Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill (appliances, tires, car batteries, electronic waste).

Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to lift. There is an additional fee for oversized items.

Appliances:

White goods such as: refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washers, air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, dryers, water heaters, water softeners, dishwashers, stoves, ranges, furnaces, etc. require a special pick-up and separate disposal by the State of Illinois. Residents must call us at 847-734-6400 to schedule a pick-up in advance and to make payment.

Construction Demolition Debris:

All material must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and no larger than 2 feet in diameter per bundle. For the safety of the collector, all debris must be bagged or bundled and free of nails and sharp objects not exceeding 45 pounds. Carpet and padding must be cut up in four foot lengths not exceeding 45 pounds per roll or 40 square yards in total. Groot will take up to 1 cubic yards per week for no additional fee. Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste"

Most electronic items are prohibited from being disposed of in Illinois landfills. Groot will collect, at the curb, up to six electronic items. Call us at 847-734-6400 to schedule a collection for electronic waste and for pricing.

The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill. All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations. Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.

Solid Waste Items Not Collected

Illinois law prohibits the disposal of certain waste in landfills. In addition, other items should be disposed of by other methods.
