Residents use city-provided carts for refuse and recycling, with additional services managed by the City’s Streets and Sanitation Department. Contact Groot or the city for assistance.
City of Evanston Waste Management and Trash Removal
Description of Contract
Refuse and Yard Waste collection is 1 time per week
Service Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday
Refuse and Recycling carts are available through the City of Evanston's Streets and Sanitation department.
Refuse Program: Evanston residents are required to use the carts which are provided by the City of Evanston's Streets and Sanitation department. Groot will only be servicing the refuse in the carts, one extra bag is allowed per week if you have a 95-gallon cart. Bulk items, appliances and additional debris will be collected by the City's Streets and Sanitation department. Please call 847-866-2940 to schedule a pick-up.
Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste"
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must contact us in advance to schedule a pick-up and get a confirmed collection date.
All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.
Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.

Yard Waste & Recycling Programs
Yard Waste Program: All yard waste must have one pre-paid sticker affixed to each biodegradable "Kraft" yard waste bag. Containers may not be used for yard waste, only biodegradable bags. Residents must call the City of Evanston to participate in the yard waste collection subscription progam.
Recycling Program: The City of Evanston is now collecting all recycling for the single-family households. Please call the City's Streets and Sanitation department for any missed collection or questions relating to the recycling program.
