Refuse & Recycling:
Each single family home is supplied with one 95 gallon refuse cart and one 65 gallon recycle cart. Seniors (65 years and older) who are registered with the Village, will have the option of choosing a 35 gallon refuse & recycle cart instead of the 95 gallon and 65 gallon sizes. Seniors must call Groot to schedule the smaller carts. While the carts must be used, you may use personal containers or bags 35 gallons or less not exceeding 45 pounds for overflow only when carts are full. Additional 95 gallon Groot refuse carts are available for rent for an annual fee. Please have your material out by 6:00am to be assured pickup. Unlimited recyclable materials are collected on your current day of service. Recyclable materials in the cart do not need to be separated from each other. For automated collections, carts must be kept 4 feet from parkway trees, mail boxes and from other carts.
You may keep the 18 gallon recycle bin for personal use or have it recycled with a note to the driver requesting removal.
Bulk & Oversized/Overweight Items:
One bulk item is permitted to be placed out for collection per household, per week. Includes furniture and large household goods, including, but not limited to rolls of carpet no more than four feet in length- 4 rolls per week at no charge, home remodeling and repair construction materials (provided such repair/construction material is put in suitable containers or in bundles not exceeding four feet in length and not weighing over 45 pounds per container or bundle).
Oversized and overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that requires Groot to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano or hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to safely lift. There will be an additional cost for oversized item pick-up. Please call Groot in advance to schedule a pick-up.
Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home for an additional fee; however, you must call in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.
All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.
Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.

Yard Waste: Yard waste will be collected during the yard waste season of April 1st - December 31st. Residents may place their yard waste in biodegradable bags that do not exceed 33 gallons or 50 pounds. No personal containers allowed. Yard waste which is too bulky to be placed in a bag, such as branches or brush must be securely tied and bundled. Branches may not exceed 3" in diameter. Each bag or bundle requires a compost sticker.
Acceptable material includes: grass clippings leaves, branches, brush, garden plants, flowers, weeds, vines, garden vegetables and garden fruit. Unacceptable material includes: fence posts, railroad ties, wood chips, bark, firewood, sod, earth and rocks.
Residents may choose to subscribe to weekly yard waste collection utilizing a 95 gallon cart for an annual fee. No stickers are required for the material placed inside the cart. Please call our Customer Service Department for details. Collection is the same day as the refuse and recycling collection. Any yard waste placed outside of the 95 gallon cart will require one sticker per bag or bundle.
