Village of Winthrop Harbor Waste and Recycling

Village Of Winthrop Harbor

ToterCollection Day is Friday.

Residents can choose from any of the following programs. Call Groot at (877) 40-GROOT today to find out which one of the following options will fit your needs:

Unlimited Standard Refuse Service: Service includes weekly collection of unlimited household garbage with a 95-gallon cart. One bulk item (non-appliance) will be collected each week for no additional charge.

Tag Service and Recycling (does not include large item pickup): A prepaid tag must be affixed to each 32 gallon can or bag of garbage. You will be billed separately for recycling.

Limited/Senior Refuse Service: Service includes the weekly collection limited to one 65-gallon cart and one bulk item per week. Additional refuse found outside the cart will require one prepaid refuse sticker to be affixed to each container or bag not to exceed 33-gallons. Residents 65 years or older will be eligible for a discount on limited collection service. Seniors must be registered with the Village.

Special Pick-ups: Items not covered under regular refuse collection and some bulk item service require special pick-up. These items include white goods, auto parts, building materials, heavy appliances, and other similar items. Contact Groot for pricing and collection arrangements.

Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":

The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.

Groot Industries offers collection of these items directly from your home; however, you must call in advance to schedule a pick-up and make arrangements.

All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.

Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.
