Residents may choose from these refuse programs:

Unlimited Standard Level of Service:

Residents will have unlimited service with one 95 gallon cart for standard household waste collected weekly. Included in this service, Groot will also provide a 65 gallon cart for weekly collection of recyclables. Residents will be allowed to place one bulk item out per week at no additional charge. Refuse should be placed out to the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection. Groot will invoice the residents directly on a quarterly basis.

Limited Standard Level of Service:  Service includes the weekly collection limited to one 65-gallon cart and one bulk item, (non appliance), per week.  Additional refuse found outside the cart will require one prepaid refuse sticker to be affixed to each container or bag not to exceed 33-gallons.  Please be aware that if you put out more than 1 bag per month the unlimited rate is more cost effective.

**If you would like to transition to the Limited program, we would ask you to notify us providing your name, address and contact information via email to Mundelein@groot.com.  Please make this request before December 15, 2016.  Groot will switch carts for those that have requested by January 15, 2017.  The reduced limited rate would be reflected on your January bill.

Pay-Per-Bag Program: Residents who generate small volumes of refuse may elect the pay-per-bag program. In this program residents can purchase a refuse sticker and affix the sticker to each bag or can not to exceed 33 gallons containing standard household waste. The required minimum level of recycling service provides a 65-gallon cart at a monthly fee.   *Please note: if your household generates more than one bag per week, it is more cost-effective to utilize the unlimited standard level of service.

Senior Unlimited Program: To be eligible for this program residents must be 65 years or older, service includes weekly collection for one 35 gallon cart for refuse and one 35 gallon cart for recycling. Seniors must register for the Village senior water rate in order to be eligible for the senior garbage rate. Any senior electing to utilize the 95 gallon cart will still be invoiced at the standard rate. Groot will invoice the residents directly on a quarterly basis.

Senior Limited Program: To received the senior discount residents must be 65 years old or older and registered with the Village for the water bill discount.  Service will include weekly limited collection of one 35-gallon cart for refuse and one 35 gallon cart for recycling.  Additional refuse found outside the cart will require one prepaid refuse sticker to be affixed to each container or bag not to exceed 33-gallons.

Recycling: Please note that both the unlimited, limited and pay-per-bag refuse collection programs include a 65 gallon cart for recycling for weekly collection. Residents have the option to upgrade to a 95-gallon cart upon request.  To request a 95-gallon recycling cart please contact Groot customer service at 877-404-7668.

Oversized Items

Construction type debris should be stacked or bundled in lengths no longer than 4 feet and no larger than 2 feet in diameter.

  • We will consider a box spring and mattress as one large item
  • Carpeting should be in rolls no longer than 4 feet long and 2 feet in diameter and taped. We consider 5 rolls to be one large item.
  • In general try and keep any loose material bundled and neat so we can pick up.
  • Stone, concrete, and dirt can only be picked up in containers and cannot weigh more than 45 lbs. per container.  Two containers will be considered one large item.

Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":

The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.

Groot will now be collecting electronic waste up to 6 items at the curb for NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.  Residents wishing to recycle such items should call Groot to schedule a date and time for collection.  Please note that some items such as large TV's that require more than one person to collect may require an additional fee as determined by Groot personnel.

All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.

Customers also have the option to bring their items directly to drop-off sites throughout the area, most of which are for no charge. Please visit the where and how page of our site and click on your county and then your town to search for area drop–off locations.
