Electronic Waste Collection - "e-waste":
The Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act prohibits any person from allowing or to cause mixing of any of the items listed with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill.
Groot Industries will be providing curbside electronic waste collection for the residents of Bolingbrook beginning June 1, 2016 at no additional cost. This service will be included as part of your monthly rate.
Residents will be required to call in to Groot 48 hours in advance to schedule a collection of electronic waste. Once the day has been scheduled, place your electronic items at the curb for collection.
*Please note* that the existing electronic waste drop off center at Bolingbrook Public Works will be closed effective June 1, 2016.
All items collected will be recycled and rendered inoperable. Due to the sensitive nature of some electronic items (computer hard drives or storage devices), we prefer to pick up items from the front, side, or top of drive locations.
Bulk Items: One (1) bulk item is permitted to be placed out for collection per household, per week.
Definition: Furniture and large household goods, (including, but not limited to ranges, microwaves, refrigerators, dish washers, washing machines, dryers, room air conditioners, freezers, water heaters, rolls of carpet (no more than four (4) feet in length), home remodeling and repair construction materials (provided such repair/construction material is put in suitable containers or in bundles not exceeding four (4) feet in length and not weighing over sixty (60) pounds per container or bundle). Only five such rolls of carpet can be disposed of per week at no charge.
Residents must call in advance for White Goods, and Construction Debris collections.
Recycling: Recycling bins are available at the Village Hall, downstairs in the Public Works Department. Collection is the same day as the refuse and yard waste collection.

Yard Waste: Yard waste will be collected during the yard waste season of April 1st - December 15th. Residents may place their yard waste in biodegradable "Kraft" bags that do not exceed 33 gallons. Yard waste which is too bulky to be placed in a bag, such as branches or brush must be securely tied and bundled. Branches may not exceed 3" in diameter. Collection is the same day as the refuse and recycling collection. Help keep Bolingbrook's cost down! We encourage 'grasscycling', or leaving your grass clippings on the lawn.
Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines, bark and wood chips are acceptable landscape items. Landscape does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood, rocks, excess amounts of dirt or animal waste.
The most cost effective and environmentally friendly option is not to dispose of these materials at all. When you choose to 'grasscycle' you save time, energy, and money by avoiding having to collect and bag the clippings as well as the disposal charges. To successfully grasscycle, you should mow regularly, keep your mower blades sharp, and cut the grass when it is dry. Grass clippings, which are 90% water, make excellent fertilizer, add nutrients to your lawn and reduce water evaporation which can be particularly helpful in the dry summer months. Leaves can be composted cleanly and without odor.
