Dear Property Manager:

As your recycling service provider, we want to encourage you to establish an effective recycling program. An effective recycling program is not only environmentally responsible, it's the law. The Chicago High Density Residential and Commercial Source Reduction and Recycling Ordinance requires a property managers or building owners to have a recycling program in place in every one of their buildings.
By law you are required to:

• Establish a program that collects 3 recyclable materials or collects 2 materials and implements 2 source reduction measures.
• Provide your tenants with an ongoing education program that includes the distribution of fliers describing the program; an annual written notice on the program; a written notice of any changes in the program, and posted signs in common areas identifying where to recycle and what material should be recycled.
• Have a written recycling plan on the premises that describes what materials are being recycled, what type of collections system you have and the components of your education program.
• Keep on the premises copies of the semi-annual recycling service provider quality reports and any notices of contamination problems.
